To commemorate National Pi Day on March 14, Southbridge Academy hosted their Pi’Lympics. Middle school “mathletes” competed against each other in a series of contests where they would have to utilize both their math and physical education skills, with the winner finishing with the fastest time and greatest accuracy.
Akeem Rose took home the gold medal, with Joannyliz Torres Vazquez claiming the silver and Kelvin Miranda Morales the bronze.
“It was amazing to see the growth of our middle school students over the past year,” said Tiffany Greaney, Principal of Southbridge Academy. “Some students were extremely nervous to participate in last year’s event and this year, they were working confidently and independently.”
Pi’Lympics Creator Dan Peters remarked, “This is always such a fun event. The entire Southbridge Academy Middle School comes together and every teacher and student is involved in some way.”
Panera Bread and Table Talk Pies again were co-sponsors.
“Southbridge Academy strives to provide challenging and rewarding experiences for all of our students,” added Greaney. “There is still more to come!”

Para conmemorar el Día Nacional Pi el 14 de marzo, Southbridge Academy organizó sus Pi'Lympics. Los "atletas" de la escuela secundaria compitieron entre sí en una serie de concursos en los que tendrían que utilizar sus habilidades matemáticas y de educación física, y el ganador terminaría con el tiempo más rápido y la mayor precisión.
Akeem Rose se llevó a casa la medalla de oro, con Joannyliz Torres Vázquez reclamando la plata y Kelvin Miranda Morales el bronce.
“Fue increíble ver el crecimiento de nuestros estudiantes de secundaria durante el último año”, dijo Tiffany Greaney, directora de Southbridge Academy. “Algunos estudiantes estaban extremadamente nerviosos por participar en el evento del año pasado y este año estaban trabajando con confianza e independencia”.
El creador de Pi'Lympics, Dan Peters, comentó: "Este siempre es un evento muy divertido. Toda la escuela secundaria Southbridge Academy se une y todos los maestros y estudiantes están involucrados de alguna manera”.
